It’s Masters week, and who better to talk about it than forty-year broadcast veteran and 37-year attendee of the Masters than radio broadcast legend, John Patrick, the Morning Show co-host of NewsTalk WGAC in Augusta, Georgia.
One of the great and legendary broadcasters in all the Southern States, whose distinctive voice, witticisms, and banter have graced the radio airwaves throughout the South for almost fifty years, John sits down with the Golf Guy to discuss this year’s Masters and all the attendant drama surrounding the tournament that was delayed last year because of Covid-19.
Because of pandemic restrictions and protocols, spectators will be allowed on the grounds but have been limited to one-quarter of normal attendance, with no reserved seating and no grandstands surrounding the tees and greens.
John reports this will actually encourage patrons to follow the action and their favorite players hole-to-hole and should produce a more imitate setting for visitors and players alike along with the surrounding roars that accompany achievements and disappointments.
With no ropes restricting access on the fairways, and no grandstands to block views of the greens, patrons will be allowed to walk, meander, stroll the fairways and surround the greens giving an amphitheater setting to the golf course teeing areas and putting services.
Concession stands will be open, the azaleas, dogwoods, and magnolias will all in ablaze in abundant, colorful glory,
Dustin Johnson returns as a popular champion and the only downer is former champion Tiger Woods absence, while he recovers from an automobile accident that precludes his attending the Champions Dinner on Tuesday night.
Former Champions Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player along with the first person of color to participate in the Master’s tournament, Lee Elder, will hit the ceremonial opening shots off the first tee on Thursday morning to continue the annual tradition.
Join John and the Golf Guy as they discuss what a grateful nation of golfers looks forward to as this annual rite of spring, returns to April, and continues The Masters, a tradition, unlike any others.
