In September 1999, the author was in Boston to cover the 33rd Ryder Cup at Brookline, amid the heavy traffic and construction of the “Big Dig.” Through the journey, he explored significant sites, including his birthplace, Taunton, Massachusetts. Born in 1945, the author’s parents moved across the U.S. during WWII for family reunification. This personal pilgrimage offered closure and reaffirmed his connection to his origins and American history.
